As the Museum's Director of Development, Mariam Mehter is responsible for leading the fundraising strategy and managing the Museum’s relationships with donors, foundations, and institutional partners to ensure that the MPP is able to maintain and grow its operations. Mariam was a volunteer with the Museum since 2019, having participated in numerous events and fundraising campaigns. Her professional journey spans mostly development roles across a diverse range of mission-based nonprofit and advocacy organizations including those focused on addressing human rights and social justice causes.
Prior to her roles in nonprofit organizations, Mariam began her professional career in the financial services sector, as a stockbroker and as a financial advisor. Mariam earned her bachelors from Syracuse University in Economics and Biology.
Mariam's commitment to social justice and human rights is reflected in her past roles at non-profit organizations that advocate for the rights of marginalized communities and via local activism.
She has served as a founding member of Impact 100 Greater Chesapeake, a women-led collective giving circle that has awarded over $1 million in grants to local nonprofits and is currently serving as a Board Member at CenterDC, a local faith-based community.
Mariam hopes to help advance the reach and impact of the MPP, and to inspire and enable individuals and communities to appreciate and learn more about the Palestinian people, culture, and history.
