DESCRIPTION:WHY WE RECORDDefying Fragmentation and Erasure in PalestineExhibit by Visualizing Palestine and The American Friends Service Committee in partnership with the Museum of the Palestinian PeopleJoin us for our exhibit opening on Thursday\, January 15 at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served\, along with opening remarks.Since October 2023\, the world has been confronted with the reality of Gaza\, but this violence did not begin then and it is not limited to Gaza. It is part of a century-long history across historic Palestine marked by displacement\, erasure\, and genocide.As Omar El Akkad warned\, there comes a time when it becomes safe to name injustice\, often when it is already too late. Throughout this history\, Palestinians have resisted erasure by creating a record of their lived experience.This exhibit highlights parts of that collective record. Through documents\, art\, writing\, images\, and testimony\, it traces the Nakba\, ongoing occupation\, and the enduring hope of return\, honoring those who continue to bear witness despite the cost.

SUMMARY:From Lily's View - A Reception Honoring the Life & Photography of Lily
DESCRIPTION:In 1948\, the course of life would be altered forever for the Palestinian people in one of the most transformative and traumatic periods in Palestinian history. Palestine and its people faced the loss of homeland\, access\, and freedom of movement. Lily Bandak was born just a few weeks following\, in Amman\, Jordan. Later in life\, Bandak would later confront her own challenges being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis\, limiting her mobility and freedom of movement. Neither Palestine nor Bandak confined themselves to be defined by loss. \n \nBandak embodied the Palestinian spirit of sumud – transforming obstacles into opportunities. With the assistance of technology at the time\, Bandak was able to have developed a mount on her wheelchair to hold her camera\, travelling to Jordan and throughout the SWANA region and photographing some its leaders\, cultural heritage sites\, and landscapes. Much of Bandak’s life’s work of photography was lost in a fire\, making the photographs displayed in this exhibition priceless. \n \nThis exhibition highlights resilience as an adaptation and to not be defined by circumstances that have been imposed. Just as Palestinians continue to build lives\, communities\, and preserve cultural and historical heritage despite displacement and fragmentation\, Bandak refused to allow physical limitations to determine her place in the world. \n \nJoin us for our exhibit opening; light refreshments and snacks will be served.

In an authentic Palestinian voice\, Hanhan sketches the workings of the global machinery of oppression\, revealing the centrality of Palestine’s liberation to decolonization\, social justice\, and environmental justice struggles around the world. “The book I never wanted to write.” \n \nRamsey Hanhan is a father\, scientist\, and independent author of two books: Palestine Bleeds For You (2026) and the autobiographical Fugitive Dreams (2022). His short stories\, essays\, and poetry appear in The Harvard Advocate\, Fikra magazine\, Scene48\, Mondoweiss and other publications. He also speaks about Palestine and literature. Formerly a physics professor\, Ramsey holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and lives near Baltimore\, Maryland.

In Palestinian and diasporic life\, objects such as olives\, coffee vessels\, pomegranates\, and olive branches can carry what is not always easily said: memory\, loss\, continuity\, care\, and attachment to homeland. Through guided prompts\, sketching\, and painting exercises\, participants will create a piece that reflects both personal memory and broader cultural narrative. \nNo prior painting experience is needed. SUMMARY:Hikayat: The Four Quartered Myth of Jerusalem
DESCRIPTION:Introducing our Hikayat series\, an ongoing conversation exploring the many threads of Palestinian cultural and historical heritage. \n \nFor our first Hikayat event\, we will be hosting Haitham Khraishi: a Palestinian-American who grew up between Maryland and Palestine\, with family roots in Tulkarem\, Palestine. He has been a docent at MPP since 2020\, where he has given guided tours\, presentations\, and helped curate the space in 2022. He also creates content online delving into the ancient\, medieval\, and modern histories of Palestine to provide insight into understanding its people\, sites\, and cities. One of his goals with content creation is to make information on Palestine easily accessible and digestible for viewers familiar with Palestine or interested in learning for the first time. \n \nFor this Hikayat\, we're exploring: Maps of Jerusalem…for as long as Haitham can remember\, maps of Jerusalem were always divided into four quarters: a Muslim\, Jewish\, Christian\, and Armenian Quarter. However\, this way of dividing the city never made sense in reality\, as multiple people\, businesses\, and religious sites exist between all of these so-called "quarters." After further research and reading\, he came to find that Jerusalem had even more ethnic and religious communities than these designations fully described. The purpose of this presentation is to explore where the myth of the four quarters originated and to uncover the stories of the other often-forgotten communities that have shaped this important city.

This introductory presentation will offer practical starting points to search no matter how long you or your family has been in the United States. Come and learn how to begin that journey through family-held sources and oral history interviews\, and how to look further into U.S.\, British Mandate\, Ottoman-era\, and Palestinian sources. This event is co-sponsored by the Museum of the Palestinian People and the National Society for Arab & Arab American Genealogy. \n \nReem Awad-Rashmawi\, JD\, is a professional genealogist\, immigration attorney\, and founder and president of the National Society for Arab & Arab American Genealogy. She has been researching family history since the 1980s and has worked professionally in genealogy since 2019\, with a focus on Arab and Arab American genealogy\, Palestinian family history\, immigration records\, oral history\, dual citizenship\, DNA analysis\, and community-based research. Reem has presented nationally on related topics and is the author of “Arab American Genealogy Research as a Form of Public History\,” published in Arab American Public History by Temple University Press in 2026.
