DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hands-on painting workshop exploring Palestine\, memory\, identity\, and diaspora through still life! \nWorking with symbolic objects that carry stories of home\, ritual\, and inheritance\, participants will reflect on the ways everyday things can hold the memory of family\, place\, and belonging. \nLed by artist Sarah Alsamarai\, the workshop will invite participants to develop a personal symbol—an object or image connected to their own history and experience—and transform it into a painted composition. In Palestinian and diasporic life\, objects such as olives\, coffee vessels\, pomegranates\, and olive branches can carry what is not always easily said: memory\, loss\, continuity\, care\, and attachment to homeland. Through guided prompts\, sketching\, and painting exercises\, participants will create a piece that reflects both personal memory and broader cultural narrative. \nNo prior painting experience is needed. SUMMARY:Suleiman Al-Obeid Legacy Classic Soccer Tournament
DESCRIPTION:We are honored that you will be playing in the first memorial soccer tournament in honor of Suleiman Al-Obeid. Most commonly referred to as the "Palestinian Pele"\, al-Obeid was killed while waiting at an aid station in Southern Gaza over one year ago on August 6\, 2025. In his name and in his honor\, the Museum of the Palestinian People is hosting our first ever soccer tournament in conjunction with our Dis-play-ced: Sports in Palestine exhibition. Please see key details below. We will reach out to you about waivers and team rosters closer to the tournament date.  \n \nDate: Sunday September 27 \nLocation: Northern Virginia Soccer Field \nTime: 5pm. First matches will kick off at 5pm.  \nEach team is guaranteed 2 matches as it will be a double elimination bracket playing 8×8. Team sizes cannot exceed 10.  \nRegistration Fee: $350 \nRegistration includes dinner\, and hydration stations provided throughout the tournament. Additionally\, we will be hosting a night at the Museum for soccer tournament players to visit and explore our new exhibit.  \n \nWant to play but don't have a team? Sign up as an individual for $40!  \nIndividual players will be placed on a team with other registered individuals (or added to teams needing additional players)\, depending on availability. We'll contact you with your team assignment before the tournament! \n \nIf you have a team less than 8 players and need extra players\, please reach out to leah@mpp-dc.org. Additionally\, if you have any questions\, please reach out to leah@mpp-dc.org and she will be able to answer all questions.  \n \nThe tournament registration fee supports the Museum's mission of preserving and celebrating Palestinian culture\, history\, and heritage. A portion of proceeds to be donated to support sports programming in Palestine.
